Giampaolo Sgura shot a great story in Rio for Italian Glamour when he was in the country to shoot Evandro for the Brazilian issue of Hercules. The story is out now, and you can view more pictures at Giampaolo Sgura's blog.

Finally a movie about Rio that doesn't revolve around drug traffic, guns, and corruption.

So far 102 people have been confirmed dead in the state of Rio de Janeiro due to mudslides and flooding as a result of the most torrential rain to hit the state in 44 years. 180 buildings were closed off this morning, and over 2,000 people are homeless because of yesterday's 11 inches of rain. A state of emergency has been declared as the forecast predicts more rain for today and the rest of the week.

• Rio de Janeiro is in fight over the country's oil riches, protesting a bill voted last week that would share the portion of Brazil’s royalties from oil revenues equally among the states. If the bill becomes law, Rio’s annual oil revenue would fall to about $134 million from about $4.3 billion.

Galeria Tempo in Rio de Janeiro is hosting an exhibit on the work of photojournalist Custódio Coimbra, featuring 18 images from his new book Rio de Cantos 1000. The exhibit opens to the public tomorrow and goes until April 24. Make sure to stop by the gallery to check it out if you are in Rio.

Guess all those crazy magic tricks at the Sambadrome paid off. Inspired by the mysteries of humanity, Unidos da Tijuca won the title of best samba school of Rio for the first time in 74 years.
