A Teen Idol Grows Up

20-year-old actor Kayky Brito is the Brazilian equivalent of Zac Efron. He grew up on national TV, and has turned into a sex symbol over the past year. His spread for the latest issue of Joyce Pascowitch magazine styled by Paulo Martinez confirms all the buzz around him.

University Of São Paulo Students Protest Against Homophobia

Usp103108

If you need a good excuse to ask your hot gay classmate to kiss you, here is one: University of São Paulo students José Eduardo Góes and Jarbas Rezende Lima, who were kicked out of a university party two weeks ago for publicly displaying their affection on top of speaker boxes, have called in all gay students to protest against homophobia this evening by gathering inf front of the Vet School where the party took place and kissing. The major gay PDA is set to take place around 10 pm, and I hope several students do attend and take pictures.

We All Knew It Wouldn't Last

103108Anna Wintour may have though she was tapping into uncharted waters when she released Men's Vogue, but from the very first issue over three years ago it was obvious that the magazine would never be able to reach Ms. Wintour's target demographics and sink. Yesterday it was reported that the magazine would scale back to two issues a year and be "absorbed into Vogue." If it didn't fold completely, it is probably for what my friend Matthew mentioned in one of our emails yesterday: Anna does not want to look like she failed after pushing the magazine so hard. And while I am thrilled to see that her no male models, no exposed male flesh, no gay content, suits and ties only policy failed to thrive as a concept, I am really upset that all my talented friends working at the fashion department of Men's Vogue were laid off. As a matter of fact, from what I heard yesterday, the entire staff was laid off except for the chief intern and Jay Fielden. Condé Nast should have easily seen it coming: how many 55-year-old insanely wealthy straight man do you know? And how many of them would purchase a magazine with Vogue stamped on its cover?

I Need To Learn This Choreography

Beyoncé took the stage at Power 105.1 Powerhouse Concert on Wednesday night to promote her new single.

I love this song. If I were in New York, I would be shopping for a black leotard, a blond wig, and a gold cyborg glove for Halloween.

Models Of The Year

Rl103008

The first ever Prêmio Moda Brasil (or Brazil Fashion Awards) took place last night in São Paulo, and while I totally get it that Raquel Zimmermann was voted Female Model Of The Year, I am uncertain as to why Leo Peixoto won Male Model. I mean, Leo is one of my all time favorite male models, but he hasn't done anything particularly special this year to even to get nominated. Michael Camiloto and Mihaly were up against him, and either of them would have made more sense, although I think Luiz Afonso Schwab is probably the Brazilian male model who made the biggest splash this year.

In case you are wondering, Womeswear Designer Of The Year went to Reinaldo Lourenço, and Alexandre Herchcovitch got props as Menswear Designer. The Best Ad Campaign award went to Osklen for its fall 2008 ads.
