Who Needs A Victoria's Secret Contract?

When you keep booking one major campaign after the other after ten years in the business? Gisele may have not renewed her contract with Victoria's Secret, but she scored a spot next to Jamie Dornan in the upcoming fall campaign for Aquascutum, shot by Mario Sorrenti. I can't wait to see the ads with Jamie.

Second Best

While Miss USA fell flat on her butt, Miss Brazil Natália Guimarães almost took home the title of Miss Universe last night in Mexico. The 22-year-old was voted first runner-up to the title, which is a big deal considering a national candidate had not been in the top 5 finalists in 26 years.

R$135 Million Weekend

According to Folha Online, Gay Pride is the second event which brings the most revenue to the city of São Paulo, right behind the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Estimates are that Pride weekend, which starts on the night of June 6, will generate R$135 million reais (roughly $70 million dollars) through hotels, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and transportation.

Last year, only 13% of the 1.8 million people which attended the parade were tourists. 52% of them stayed at hotels. While foreigners spent 5 nights in the city, tourists from Brazil spent in average 3 days in São Paulo for the festivities. The fact that there is a national holiday this year on the Thursday prior to the parade will certainly motivate tourists to stay longer.

I have a feeling that Gay Pride weekend in São Paulo has the potential to grow to become a second Carnival in the country. The parties are certainly as ellaborate and put together as the ones thrown during Carnival, although there is none of the appeal of hanging out at the beach in Rio or Floripa. I still see little effort in promoting the event abroad, but hope that is about to change in the next couple of years as more international tourists start to attend.

FYI, I will be covering the event live on June 9 and 10 thanks to G Brazil. If you haven't booked a hotel yet, I highly suggest Blue Tree Towers Paulista, which is where most of the international DJs will be staying.

The New Face From Ragazzo

Last week Made In Brazil featured the top 10 male models from Ragazzo Model Management, the biggest agency in Espírito Santo, with a casting full of promising faces.

Yesterday I received pictures of the newest model to join Ragazzo: 18-year-old Victor Gaspar from Vila Velha. Here is an exclusive first look:

I will make sure to keep an eye on him. There is one more picture after the jump.

A Semana: Gay Photography, Carnival With Brett Ratner, Chloe Sevigny, And Summer Totes

After the controversy caused by the cancellation of Pedro Stephan's exhibit at Foto Rio 2007, ALERJ decided to meet again with the photographer and agreed to hold the gay-themed exhibit at the previously scheduled venue. I guess the several emails ALERJ probably received may have had something to do with the decision. The exhibit now opens June 1st in Rio.

Quincy Jones announced last week in Cannes that he plans on producing a 3D film about Carnival in Rio, set to be directed by Brett Ratner. Shooting was supposed to have taken place at Carnival earlier this year, but was moved to 2008.

Singer Ivete Sangalo (who just so happens to be one of the highest paid entertainers in the country) celebrated her 35th birthday yesterday with a free concert for 450 thousand people at the beach in Copacabana.

Kanye West has graduated, and is back with Can't Tell Me Nothing. Eve is also back with a new video for Tambourine.

There are rumors that Chloe Sevigny will be landing in Brazil during São Paulo Fashion Week to shoot the spring ad campaign for jeanswear label Ellus with photographer Marcelo Krasilcic.

Brazilian bombshell Raica graces the cover of the special issue of Vogue Iguatemi Salvador, photographed by Bob Wolfenson.

Caroline Trentini strikes a pose as Octopussy in the latest issue of Numero.

Looking for a perfect summer tote? I am digging Marc Jacobs' quilted PVC tote, J. Crew's madras tote, Valextra's shopping bag, and Leonello Borghi's Earth tote.

It just doesn't get any hotter than him: Brazilian model Miro Moreira is gracing the cover of the latest issue of L'Officiel Hommes.
