Over a month after the tragic crash of Gol's Flight 1907, killing 154 people, reports based on analysis of the black boxes indicate that the air traffic controllers in Brasilia did make a mistake in not warning the Legacy jet to lower its altitude to 36,000 to avoid a collision.
According to investigations, passengers on board of flight 1907 did not even have time to ask for help as they lost consciousness right after the crash with the jet. The left wing of the jet hit the left wing of the Boeing, causing it to break, and send the airplane spiraling down to the ground in a matter of seconds.
It has not yet been confirmed if the anti-collision system on the Legacy jet had been turned off, or shut down prior to the collision. The jet is not allowed leave the country during investigations. If proven that the transponder was turned off, the American pilots face charges in Brazil.
The government promised a complete report about the tragic accident by the end of next week.

This is tragic. Think about it though ... as busy as traffic is up in the skies its a wonder air accidents are so rare. Not to place any jinx but its just fascinates me. Traffic accidents on the ground automobiles, trucks and trains still outnumber that of accidents in the air. Even nautical accidents outnumber accidents pertaining to the airlines. Count our blessings.

Sue, that perspective depends on what country one lives in. In many countries, air accidents are quite common.
