Ringing The Alarm At The VMAs

Forget Timberlake's booty shaking opening number with Timbaland and even the boys from The Killers at the finale because the real incendiary performance at last night's VMAs was Beyoncé singing her new single "Ring The Alarm." And as much as I am not the biggest fan of "Hips Don't Lie," Shakira's belly dancing number came as a close contender. I had the pleasure of holding her as she dove into the pit a few years ago at the VMAs while performing "Objection," but she certainly topped that last night (and even her hair looked great).

Other than that, I also liked Sarah Silverman's chat with Paris Hilton. Jack Black should have been axed by the second segment, and replaced by her.

I was surprised by all the winners actually. While I never thought Madonna would get anything, I just did not imagine that Kelly Clarkson would beat Christina Aguilera and Shakira for Best Female Video. After all, they were also nominated for Best Video Of The Year, which went to the least expected candidates to the title: the very cute boys from Panic At The Disco!.

I am sure MTV will be running the show all weekend long in case you missed it. For more, make sure to check out Arjan and Trent today. For some red carpet action, visit MTV.
