São Paulo Under Siege

The third wave of attacks by the Primeiro Comando da Capital (or PCC) this year resulted in the death of 4 suspects this morning in São Paulo. 11 buses were burnt down last night, but public transportation is running according to schedule today. The city's police plans to increase surveillance of the transportation system, putting more undercover officers on buses.

Anchored in local prisons and led by criminals who issue their orders via cell phones and instructions given to their attorneys, the PCC is one of Brazil's most notorious organized crime groups. In the initial attacks yesterday, 78 symbols of government and businesses were attacked in São Paulo. Click here for pictures of the attacks.
