After all the recent stalking, Brazilian DJ Leandro Becker agreed to do an exclusive Q&A with Made In Brazil to celebrate the release of the February issue of G magazine. I emailed him a few of your questions last month, and his answers are below.
Describe yourself in 5 words.
I am a little complex to describe myself in 5 words, but I'd say happy, friendly, hard-working, dedicated, and loyal.
What made you want to become a DJ? Is there any special song that motivated you? And what were your most significant influences?
I have always loved stages, audiences, as well as good parties. To top it off I fell in love with music, and started dedicating myself to it. A song I love? "Rapture" by Ilo. As for influences, I could talk about several DJs and producers, but I was mostly influenced by the energy between the DJ and the audience. That energy is what drives my set because the most important thing in my opinion is to have a dancefloor full of people who are happy with the music.
For those who are not familiar with your style, how would you describe your set?
I love male vocals, but I try to add female vocals as well, depending on the party. Above all, I'd describe my set as happy.
Your pictures for Terra's The Boy are certainly some of the most popular ones the site has ever produced. How do you think that has impacted your career?
Everything has a good side and a bad side, and I was afraid that people thought I had become a well-known DJ simply because I was cute. That ended up motivating me to work harder to prove people that I am good at what I do. Today I am the resident DJ of two of Brazil's biggest parties: X-Demente in Rio and Clubkidz. Both parties are produced by the same guy who last year brought Deborah Cox and some of the world's best DJs to Gay Pride in São Paulo.
Which DJs do you admire?
I try to listen to as many DJs as possible because each one has his own style, and I can grow from the information I assimilate.
What is essential at a good party?
A good party needs a little bit of everything. Gays, lesbians, straights, whores... Only diversity can make a party complete.
In which event would you most like to play?
Probably at some White Party because I think the event is amazing.
Any plans on playing outside of Brazil anytime soon?
There is some speculation about a few events, but nothing has been confirmed so far.
Part II of the interview with Leandro is coming tomorrow.
