The Brazilian men's volleyball team lost the Olympic gold medal to the US yesterday, but when it comes to hotness there is nothing silver about players Samuel and André Heller.

I think I may need to start watching more volleyball.

Losing only a single set in Beijing, the Brazilian women's volleyball team beat the US today and won the gold medal.

This was Brazil's first Olympic women's volleyball final after three straight semi-finals and successive bronzes at Atlanta in 1996 and in Sydney four years later.
More pictures of the match at Olimpíadas UOL and NBC.
Maurren Maggi won the gold medal in long jump in Beijing, becoming the first Brazilian female solo athlete to ever win an Olympic gold medal.

It is another loss to an American team: the boys of beach volleyball Márcio and Fábio Luiz made it to the finals but lost to Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, ending up with a silver medal. The bronze medal winners were Brazilians Ricardo and Emanuel, who took home the gold four years ago in Athens.

Even though the Brazilian women's soccer team lost 0-1 to the US today, the Brazilian girls left with a silver medal, managing to obtain a better result than the boys, without 1% of the support they get from the government or their multi-million dollar salaries.

And we still have the Brazilian women's volleyball team to count on when it comes to a gold medal, and beating the US team. The girls beat China today, and have not yet lost a single set at the Beijing Olympics. They play against the US on Saturday morning.

As if gymnast Diego Hypólito falling on his final tumbling pass wasn't enough this week, the Brazilian soccer team was brutally beat 3-0 by Argentina yesterday, and will now have to fight for a bronze medal against Belgium on Friday.
The Olympic gold medal is the only major international title never won by Brazil's soccer team. More pictures of the match at UOL Olimpíadas.
Brazilian gymnast Diego Hypolito was the favorite to win gold in the floor exercise yesterday. His floor routine is one of the most difficult in the world, and features two tumbling moves so unique they carry his name. After nailing pretty much every single tumbling pass though, Diego fell on his final landing, finishing in sixth place.

Had Diego won, he would have been the first Brazilian Olympic gymnastics medalist. Watch his floor exercise on the video below.
With the entire country counting on a gold medal from him, I can only imagine how he felt yesterday.
Celebrating the Beijing Olympics, here are some pretty amazing pictures from men's synchro platform diving.

César Cielo became the first Brazilian to win an Olympic swimming gold medal by winning the men's 50-meter freestyle this morning. He won in 21.30 seconds, lowering his own Olympic record of 21.34 set in the semifinals.

Cielo's gold medal was the country's first at the Beijing Olympic Games. Watch him win gold in the video below.
He also won the bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle.
While Michael Phelps keeps on breaking records in Beijing, César Cielo won the bronze medal in the 100m freestyle and became the first Brazilian to win an Olympic swimming medal in 12 years.

Tongues out: Diego scored the first goal against China today. Brazil won 3 x 0, and will face Cameroon this coming Saturday.

And yes, he is totally my new soccer crush.
On more Olympic news, Michael Phelps won his fifth gold medal in Beijing and became the winningest Olympian ever.
Tiago Camilo conquered another bronze medal in judo for Brazil today.

It is a shame to think that a country the size of Brazil only has three Olympic medals so far.
Lightweight Leandro Guilheiro made history this morning by winning a bronze medal in judo, and becoming the country's first judo fighter to win medals in two consecutive Olympics Games (he won bronze in Athens four years ago).

How cute his he? His medal is also the country's second in the Beijing Olympics so far. (Image Source)
Brazilian divers Hugo Parisi and César Castro practicing in Beijing this past Friday.

I can't wait for the Olympics to begin to watch all the gymnastics on TV. Here are pictures of Brazilian gymnast Diego Hypólito training yesterday.

The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games kick off on Friday, and Globo had the lovely idea of inviting a few Brazilian athletes to blog about their Olympic experience. My favorite on their list of bloggers is heavyweight judo fighter João Gabriel Schlittler. From the pictures below you can clearly see why.

The soccer team is also practicing, and even though the players have not been given a blog, am sure pictures of them will not be scarce. These are my favorite shots from yesterday in Shenyang. Love the team spirit.

And as if that wasn't good enough, Nova magazine shot three Olympians shirtless for its latest issue.

It is already shaping up to be one hot Olympic year.
