One Sweet Day (Part II)

Why am I not surprised that Mariah managed to include a bikini shot in her new video for Bye Bye?

At least there are no unicorns in this one.

I actually am really digging Mariah Carey's new album, but Bye Bye happens to be one of my least favorite songs. How about a video for Migrate or Love Story instead?

05/02/2008

Before He Cheated

Carrie Underwood just released the video for Last Name, and I must say that even though this is not one of my favorite tracks from Carnival Ride, this the hottest she's ever looked in a video.

04/26/2008

How About A Round Of Applause?

Rihanna just unveiled her video for Take A Bow, from the re-release of her album Good Girl Gone Bad.

Take A Bow seems to be a popular song title these days. It also appears on the tracklist of Leona Lewis' Spirit.

04/25/2008

Teenage Love Affair

I wish Alicia Keys' latest album As I Am would get more play because it is pretty brilliant. My favorite track is Teenage Love Affair, and it is also the third single from the album.

She looks freaking amazing in the video.

04/08/2008

All About The Dance Break

The video for Usher's new single Love In This Club is finally available. The track is growing on me little by little.

Why Wait Until 04/04 At 4:44?

When Madonna's video for 4 Minutes has already made its way into YouTube?

Warning: link may be taken down at any minute.

The video is already available for purchase on iTunes.

03/14/2008

A Feast For The Eye

Róisín Murphy has just released the video for You Know Me Better, and it is everything you would expect from her (and more): the coolest clothes, hair and make up, and cinematography, and a truly amazing record.

I wish she would get more play in the US and Brazil. Her album is definitely one of the best I have listened to in the past year.

03/13/2008

What Do You Do When You Can't Get Britney On The Set?

An animated video, of course. Below is Break The Ice.

03/12/2008

Do You Got A First Aid Kit Handy?

Everyone who reads this blog knows that my musical taste needs some medical help. As if it weren't enough that I have been playing Danity Kane's Damaged a lot these days, I am now also addicted to the tacky pink neon video for the song.

From the look of the outfits, you would have thought that Beyoncé's mom styled this video.

03/11/2008

Hot + Sex

Last week CSS' video for Music is My Hot Hot Sex mysteriously appeared on the top of list of YouTube's most watched videos of all time, knocking The Evolution Of Dance to the second spot with over 98 million views. This week Google removed the video from the list and is further investigating if the numbers are accurate and legit.

With hot and sex on the song title, I am sure the video does pop up on several online searches, but 98 million views? Considering it was posted less than a year ago, I have my suspicions.

Janet Rocks With U

Janet's new album Discipline debuted on the #1 slot at The Billboard 200 this week. I have been listening to it a lot lately, and my favorite track so far is Rock With U. The video for the song was released yesterday, and it is Janet back at being sexy, without the help of special effects or latex outfits.

03/03/2008

Better In Time

Because I am obsessed with singer Leona Lewis.

I hear the American release of her album Spirit will include two new tracks, which I can't wait to listen to. If you have not listened to the mixes for Bleeding Love, make sure to look out for them.

If the link above is taken down, you can also watch the video here.

02/28/2008

Leona Lewis In Support Of Sport Relief

Leona Lewis recently debuted her single Bleeding Love in the US, but I have been aching for something new from her since I have been listening to her album Spirit for a while now. The video below for Footprints In The Sand was just released as part of this year’s Sport Relief.

Not my favorite track from the album, but you can't deny the girl can sing.

And in terms of sappy videos which I can't get enough of, make sure to also check out:
Ferras -Hollywood's Not America
Jordin Sparks Feat. Chris Brown - No Air

All Up In Her Business

I have already said all I needed to say about Mariah's new video for Touch My Body, but now that I see that there is an unicorn involved in it I may have to give her an extra cliché point.

02/26/2008

Touch Her Body

Here is a 45-seconds preview of Mariah's new video.

No surprises: major cleavage, midriff exposed, schoolgirl uniform, and high heels. Add a 1-800 number to the bottom of the screen and you have a great ad spot for a phone sex line.

02/14/2008

Kanye West For Girl Power (Or Badass Chicks)

You can always count on Kanye West to come up with pretty powerful visual interpretations of his songs. The video for Flashing Lights is no different.

It makes Madonna's What It Feels Like A Girl look like a joke, so I have a feeling MTV is not going to play it.

01/30/2008

Packaged For America

Leona Lewis' video for Bleeding Love gets a New York makeover and a hot new boyfriend played by model Nicholas Lemons for its American release.

I still like the rain and the drama in the original video better. If you have not listened to her debut album Spirit yet, get a copy asap.

Britney Houston, We Have A Problem

Britney Houston's take on Janet's Feedback is genious.

For another drag-worthy video, make sure to check out Kylie's Wow. What is it with pink neon these days?

01/29/2008

The Promise Of A New Day

I am embarrassed to admit that I am very much looking forward to Paula Abdul's comeback video for Dance Like There Is No Tomorrow.

01/28/2008

Sweet And Refreshing

Love the concept of Erykah Badu's new video for Honey.

01/09/2008

In Her Own Little World

I love Janet's new single but I wish she would have given it to me in the video.

01/01/2008

Abriendo Caminos

I know this is not a new song, but the lyrics are perfect for the first day of the year, especially considering I am in Punta del Este.

12/22/2007

Love Song

Sara Bareilles' Love Song was released a while ago, but it wasn't until a reader emailed it to me that I got addicted to it (and included it on last week's podcast). You should definitely check it out.

Click here to download a live version of the song.

12/19/2007

Your Noise Is Messing With My Head

Why did Timbaland do this to me? As much as I want to hate it, I am hypnotized by Ashlee Simpson's new single.

Video also available at Yahoo Music.

12/15/2007

A Piece Of Britney

Much better than Gimme More, but still missing a super flat stomach and killer choreography. Watch it here and judge for yourself.

12/04/2007

Silver Lipstick, Discoball, And All That Good Stuff

Jennifer Lopez just released the video for Hold It Don't Drop It, the second single from her latest effort Brave (although am not sure of how much effort she really put into the album). As dull as the video is, she looks great as usual, and you know drag queens around the world are already copying it.

11/22/2007

I Keep Bleeding Love

I have been listening a lot to Leona Lewis' debut album Spirit these days. I know the video for the first single Bleeding Love was released a while ago, but I am so in love with the song that I had to post it here.

Sorry for all the ballads lately. I must be going through a romantic phase.

Fashion Note: the shimmery Dolce & Gabbana number Leona wears in the video is getting a lot of press lately. Victoria Beckham wears the same dress in the Spice Girls video for Headlines.

10/25/2007

No Time For Negative Vibes

Mary J. Blige's Just Fine has been on heavy rotation on my iPod lately. Here is the blond wig-extravaganza video to promote the single.

Love the end with the pink neon lights.

10/17/2007

Taking Chances With Celine

It is semi-pathetic the fact that I am excited that Celine Dion is coming out with a new album. I have been listening to the first single Taking Chances for the past month basically because I feel she is singing about me (even though we have obviously never met and she doesn't write her own songs).

The video for the single is finally out, and although it doesn't feature any hot guys dying on a bike accident in the middle of a storm, it still manages to be corny. Here is the guilty pleasure of the week:

10/15/2007

Music Video Or Infomercial?

Product endorsements aside, Fergie's new video for Clumsy is visually stunning (and there is even a cameo by model Andre Ziehe).

10/10/2007

I'm In Love...

With Kylie's new single Two Hearts.

Via Arjan Writes.

10/06/2007

Princess Kelly Clarkson

Not sure if I like (or even understand) the concept of the video for Don't Waster Your Time, but it is my favorite song from her latest album, so I will take what I can get.

10/05/2007

Too Much Hotness In One Video: Eros Ramazzotti With Ricky Martin

It is the best duet in Spanish since Alejandro Sanz teamed up with Shakira on La Tortura.

And the song is also available in Italian.

Britney Gone Wild

Someone please contain the legendary Ms. Britney Spears: how the hell did she manage to come up with one of the hottest tracks of the year, and then destroy it with a VMAs performance and pole dancing music video a la Girls Gone Wild?

I don't want more. I was happy with the single alone, no images of Britney attached to it. Luckily there is still a chance this may just be a promotional video (as if Britney needed any more bad publicity).

09/25/2007

Everything's Gonna Be Alright: Alicia Keys Is Back

And actually looking sexy for a change. I love the song.

Rihanna is also sexing it up in a more subtle way for her duet with Ne-Yo, Hate That I Love U.

09/20/2007

Sometimes That Mountain You've Been Climbing Is Just A Grain Of Sand

I have been listening to Carrie Underwood's new single So Small for the past month, and now the video for it is out.

It is as tacky as the lyrics, predictable, and there is a nod to Joss Stone's Spoiled video, but I love it anyway.

I am definitely picking up a copy of her sophomore release Carnival Ride as soon as it is released on October 23.

09/15/2007

Let Me Know

This song by Roisin Murphy was the soundtrack to my trip to Floripa last weekend, and I hope that you like it too.

A Semana: Evandro Soldati, New York Fashions, Blindness, and Naked Rugby Players

Model Evandro Soldati stars in the Emporio Armani Underwear campaign.

Fashion week in New York is now over. Brazilian Francisco Costa got mild reviews from Style.com for his spring Calvin Klein collection, but was praised by Cathy Horyn.

Brazilian newcomers from Ford, Fernanda Reis and Laila, scored bookings at Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Still on the fashion week topic, there are three things I have seen a lot: floral prints, gold sequined numbers, and the safari jacket. Even if you are a guy, get one now (even if it is sleeveless).

People magazine elected the best and worst dressed celebrities of 2007.

Cate Blanchett (missing from People's list) looks stunning in the latest issue of W magazine, photographed by Michael Thompson.

Director Fernando Meirelles has been blogging the shooting of Blindness, his latest project with Julianne Moore and Mark Rufallo. It is a fascinating read if you understand Portuguese.

Kanye West came out with yet another great music video this year, for Good Life, while Ari Gold debuted his new animated video for Where The Music Takes You today.

Pictures of the 2008 Dieux du Stade Calendar shot by Steven Klein have already hit the web (warning: NSFW).

Photographer Fabien Baron brings back the 80's Weber aesthetic for Calvin Klein's new fragrance Men.

The first candidate to the title of Mr. Gay Brazil is Fred Oliver from Cabo Frio.

Behind The Scenes Of J.Lo's New Video

I miss gossip on TV a lot when I am in Brazil, but luckily technology allows me to watch all the important things I would otherwise miss, such as Jennifer Lopez on the set of her new video for Do It Well.

Is that a black Prada mini skirt she is wearing in the dance sequence? I hate to admit that I can't wait for more.

08/18/2007

Her Name Is Nicole

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger is out with the first video from her solo album, and it is beyond hot and sexy.

Her debut album "Her Name Is Nicole" is schedule for an October 16 release. The cover is after the jump.

The Return Of Natalie Imbruglia

Singer Natalie Imbruglia is back with a new track called Glorious, to promote the September 10th release of her greatest hits album entitled Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007. Remember Torn or Wrong Impression? I bet some of you sang to them almost as much as I did several years ago. I just have no idea which other singles may be on the compilation.

07/30/2007

Brazilian Booty Parade

Will.I.Am takes brazilianizer to the next level in this snippet from his I Got It From My Mama video, shot in Rio a few weeks ago.

07/28/2007

Loosen Up Your Buttons

The Pussycat Dolls' body of work accumulated over the past two years is pretty impressive given that none of them can actually sing live. As much as I want to hate them, I end up falling for their songs as soon as I see a video with some sexed-up choreography and lack of clothing.

Now someone had the patience to paste their hits together in a megamix, and I am fixated.

07/24/2007

Please Don't Stop The Music

This is my favorite song so far from Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad, but I have to admit that I am disappointed with the lack of a hot choreography in the video.

07/13/2007

I Caught A McPheever

I am obsessed with this song lately, and I love it that Katharine McPhee tried a few dance moves on the video.

06/27/2007

Bionic (And Shirtless) Kanye

Say what you wanna say about Mr. West, but one thing's for sure: the man turns out some of the best music videos we see these days. Stronger was directed by Hype Williams, and is destined to be a serious contender at this year's Video Music Awards.

Question: what is it with shooting videos in Japan these days? Madonna did it last year, and more recently so did The Killers.

06/25/2007

Sober

I got an advanced copy of Kelly Clarkson's My December last week, and have been listening to a lot since then. As much as I love her voice, I have to admit that I think the new album pales in comparison to Breakaway.

So far my favorite track on the album is Sober. Watch it live on the clip below. The album hits stores tomorrow.

06/21/2007

Shut Up And Drive

Rihanna gets a bit of an Avril Lavigne makeover for her new video for Shut Up And Drive. The track is not as hot as Umbrella in my opinion, but maybe it will grow on me.

Now how about Don't Stop The Music as the third single from the album?

In the meantime, my addiction is Kat Deluna's Whine Up. Can't wait to be in New York to listen to it on the radio while heading to the beach.

06/18/2007

Timbaland's World Cup

Only because I find the track so sexy, I was expecting an edgier video for Way I Are. Why the soccer players in the middle? It feels like a Nike commercial.

06/14/2007

He's Bad And He Knows

I am glad Justin released LoveStoned as the fourth video from his sophomore album. It is my favorite track by far.

05/28/2007

A Semana: Gay Photography, Carnival With Brett Ratner, Chloe Sevigny, And Summer Totes

After the controversy caused by the cancellation of Pedro Stephan's exhibit at Foto Rio 2007, ALERJ decided to meet again with the photographer and agreed to hold the gay-themed exhibit at the previously scheduled venue. I guess the several emails ALERJ probably received may have had something to do with the decision. The exhibit now opens June 1st in Rio.

Quincy Jones announced last week in Cannes that he plans on producing a 3D film about Carnival in Rio, set to be directed by Brett Ratner. Shooting was supposed to have taken place at Carnival earlier this year, but was moved to 2008.

Singer Ivete Sangalo (who just so happens to be one of the highest paid entertainers in the country) celebrated her 35th birthday yesterday with a free concert for 450 thousand people at the beach in Copacabana.

Kanye West has graduated, and is back with Can't Tell Me Nothing. Eve is also back with a new video for Tambourine.

There are rumors that Chloe Sevigny
