Mr. Gay Brazil Goes Straight

Mrgay030708

Luciano Lupo, the first Mr. Gay Brazil, graces the cover of Revista Ops this month, and poses for a spread on sexuality surrounded by a couple of bimbos. I didn't get the point, but am sure someone thought it was a good idea.

A Semana: Mr. Gay, Naomi In The Hospital, Money Girls, And A Shocking Soccer Accident

Your next trip to Brazil may be more expensive: the US dollar keeps on going down against the Brazilian real. The exchange rate is now the lowest in the past nine years, at R$ 1,696.

Argentinian Carlos Meliá, winner of the International Mr. Gay Competition, spent the weekend in the country doing press conferences and TV appearances to promote the event. Carlos also had time for an interview and photoshoot for an upcoming issue of Junior magazine. Watch a making of video and his interview on MixBrasil.

The third season of Lost debuts tonight on Brazilian TV. In it, Rodrigo Santoro actually dubbed his character Paulo in Portuguese. He had already done the same for the movie 300.

I have a new reason to watch Desperate Housewives.

Leonardo DiCaprio's gf Bar Rafaeli is the Brazilianizer of the week. She landed in São Paulo yesterday, and is shooting a campaign for a clothing line all day today.

Another Brazilianizer is also in São Paulo: model Naomi Campbell underwent surgery at a hospital this past Sunday, and is still there. No word yet on what the surgery was for.

Models.com unveils the Top 25 Money Girls, and the list is dominated by Brazilians.

In one of the worst soccer accidents I have ever seen, Brazilian-born Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva almost had to have his foot amputated after being tackled by Birmingham defender Martin Taylor. Eduardo fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg, and is expected to be back on the field in nine months. If you got the stomach for it, watch the accident on video (links are being constantly taken down).

Speedo Break On Valentine's Day

Who said you have to stay single during Carnival to have fun? Mr. Gay Floripa and Mr. Gay Brasília certainly did not. The Mr. Gay Brazil candidates recently sent some pictures, and I thought it would be appropriate to post them today.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you btw. As for the couple above, more pictures of them hitting the showers after the jump.

Mr. Gay Brazil Is Mr. Popular

Mr. Gay Brazil Luciano Lupo did not take home the crown yesterday at the International Mr. Gay Competition in Los Angeles (the winner was Mr. Gay Argentina), but he did win the title of Mr. Popular by getting the most votes online.

Check out Luciano dancing samba at the pageant yesterday on the video below.

Thanks Marcio for sending the video. More pictures of the competition at Drew Faber, Ohlala, and MixBrasil.

Speedo Sundays

The 2008 International Mr. Gay Competition kicks off this Thursday in California. To celebrate it, Made In Brazil has new pictures of Brazilian finalist Renato Agostinho, a.k.a. Mr. Gay Floripa.

Keep in mind that Luciano Lupo was the Brazilian winner, and will be representing the country in the International Mr. Gay Competition this coming weekend. Help him win by voting for Luciano online.

More exclusive pictures of Mr. Gay Floripa after the jump.

A Semana: NYE, Brazilianizers, and Mr. Gay

DSquared2 twins Dean and Dan Caten spent New Year's at Chopin building in Rio.

Four million people watched the fireworks from the beach in Rio de Janeiro this year. O Globo Online has a picture gallery of the festivities.

I am saddened to report that one person died at Posto 9 in Ipanema during a shooting, and that five people were hurt by stray bullets in Copacabana on NYE.

My friend and blogger Italo talks about the parties in Rio on his blog. From what I heard, nightclub The Week reigned supreme in its first new year in the city, and Chris Cox was the best DJ.

Check out MixBrasil for a selection of pictures of the parties in Rio.

Rumors on Brazilian papers had everyone thinking Paris Hilton would spend NYE at Cafe de la Musique in Floripa. Paris ended up in Las Vegas, but models Alessandra Ambrosio, Izabel Goulart, Jeisa, Oluchi, and Fernanda Motta were there. Actor Jared Leto also chose the place to spend NYE.

Mary J. Blige performed Just Fine and Alicia Keys sang Like You'll Never See Me Again to ring in the new year in New York.

January 12 has been confirmed as the date for the first edition of the Creamfields festival in Punta del Este. The line up of DJs includes the likes of Hernán Cattaneo, Seb Fontaine, Jimmy Van M, S.O.S., and others.

It is time to get online and vote for Brazilian Luciano Lupo in the International Mr. Gay Competition.

Mr. Gay Brazil Strikes A Pose

MixBrasil invited Mr. Gay Brazil winner Luciano Lupo to shoot a spread in nothing but undies and swimsuits. I love that he is such a good sport, and totally went for it (and worked it). More pictures after the jump.

Too Ripped For Monday: Mr. Gay Santa Catarina

Renato Agostinho may not have won the title of first Mr. Gay Brazil two weeks ago, but he sure should have won the award for most chiseled body on the pageant. He just sent me these new exclusive pictures to prove it.

He should think of doing a workout video for the blog. More after the jump.

Big Brother Brazil Hopeful Of The Week: Mr. Gay

I had suggested that you vote for Luciano Lupo last month, but now that he won the title of first Mr. Gay Brazil, I am campaigning to make sure he gets a spot on the Big Brother Brazil house come January. There may be other hot gay candidates up for the role, but I know this guy wants it real bad (in a Showgirls sorta way).

In the video below, he takes you on a tour of his home a la MTV Cribs. I did not need to see his several cats, but I give Luciano credit for making sure he was shirtless throughout the taping.

Now head over to his BBB8 profile and click on SIM to get him on the upcoming season of the show. Mr. Gay deserves it, and his picture as Miss Piggy is priceless.

It's Not Easy Being Mr. Gay Brazil

What type of pageant would have been complete without a trip to the salon to get waxed, plucked, and tanned?

The Mr. Gay Brazil contestants got their makeovers last Saturday, and I figured I would share the pictures of the process which arrived on my mailbox yesterday.

How does my butt look? There is a lot more after the jump.

Partying With The Mr. Gay Candidates

The official party for the first Mr. Gay Brazil contest was at club Flex, but at about 5 am it seems that it was at The Week that most of the candidates were dancing and parading around with their sashes. I couldn't resist to taking a few pictures of the action. Check them out after the jump.

And The First Mr. Gay Brazil Is...

27-year-old Luciano Lupo from Cuiabá, by far my favorite candidate. Mr. Gay São Paulo and Mr. Gay Brasília took the second and third spots, respectively.

Luciano Lupo will represent the country at the Mr. Gay International contest in Los Angeles in January, and will be photographed for the next issue of Junior magazine.

I decided to drop by the finals on Saturday night in São Paulo before heading over to The Week, but it was way too hot inside the theater to stay long (and the MC was too annoying to stand). I did manage, however, to tape the all contestants in swimsuits.

For more, check out some exclusive backstage shots at Mix Brasil and Lado A.

I know everything was done at the very last minute, but I would like to congratulate the guys over at MixBrasil for putting the contest together for the first time in the country.

I would also like to congratulate all the contestants for having the balls to compete. Although Brazil is blessed with some of the best genetic codes on the planet, I found it shocking that there were very few contestants willing to step out and face the media in such an event. Keep in mind that not even Rio was represented this year, and one of the contestants was forced to drop out because his family did not want to deal with the exposure (the contest was highlighted in a national TV program). I hope that all the positive media about the pageant will generate a lot more interest come next year.

Who Will Be Crowned Mr. Gay Brazil?

The first ever Mr. Gay Brazil will be revealed tomorrow night at Teatro Fábrica in São Paulo. The thirteen finalists will spend the day in the city getting plucked and coiffed for their big night: the winner gets to represent the country in the Mr. Gay International finals in Los Angeles in January. Below are my six favorites.

Visit MixBrasil for pictures of the thirteen candidates up for the title.

A Semana: Art, Gay Media, Ricky, Justin, And Ipanema Fashion Week

The Venice Biennale announced this year's Golden Lion award recipients. The Golden Lion for an artist participating in the central international exhibition was awarded to Argentinian León Ferrari for La Civilización Occidental y Cristiana, his 1965 sculpture of Christ crucified on a fighter jet.

Brazil's gay media is now flourishing: Junior was just released last month, and there is already a new gay magazine set for a November launch. It will be called Dom, and it will likely feature Andre Ziehe on the cover of the first issue, with 50,000 copies printed. Competition will grow next year with the release of a third gay magazine called Romeu.

29-year-old bartender and go-go dancer Edmilson Araújo was voted Mr. Gay Manaus.

Ricky Martin got a much deserved star in the Walk Of Fame.

Thanks to his single Until The End Of Time parking on the 24th slot on the Billboard charts this week, Justin Timberlake became the first solo male artist this decade to spawn six top 40 hits from the same album. Shania Twain's Come On Over, which had six top 40 Hot 100 hits from 1997 to 99, was the last album overall to reach the same heights.

Rumor has it that Matthew McConaughey is thinking about having a baby with Brazilian girlfriend Camila Alves.

Someone at DNA magazine is reading Made In Brazil.

The work of Brazilian illustrator Filipe Jardim recently ended up on the pages of the NYT and The Wall Street Journal, thanks to his partnership with Tiffany's. Filipe had previously collaborated with Louis Vuitton and Hermès.

Cathy Horyn takes a final look at the spring 2008 collections, and elects her favorite show.

Style.com picked their Ten favorite collections of the season. Question: why is Rodarte on the list?

Fashion Rio is getting a very strong competitor come 2008. Enterpreneur Nizan Guanaes is planning to launch his much anticipated Ipanema Beach Fashion Week on November of next year, bringing together the biggest names in Brazilian beachwear and sportswear. There are rumors going around that Mr. Guanaes is also looking into buying São Paulo Fashion Week, which would turn him into the emperor of Brazilian fashion.

The Race For Mr. Gay Brazil Continues

The hunt for the first ever Mr. Gay Brazil candidate will finally come to an end on October 27 in São Paulo, and I will try to be there to cover it in person.

The finalists representing São Paulo and Salvador were revealed this past weekend, and they are Rodrigo Naves and Alisson Nery.

Visit Mix Brasil for a list of the 10 finalists selected.

Mr. Gay Paraná Strikes A Pose

Mr. Gay Paraná Bruno César Toledo posed for the current issue of Revista Lado A, and Made In Brazil has a couple of exclusive pictures (a la Madonna in Sorry).

The Southern Mr. Gay Candidate

The race for the first Mr. Gay Brazil continued this past weekend in Porto Alegre and Recife.

Down south in Porto Alegre the finals were held at Cine Theatro Ypiranga by my friend Miltinho Talaveira. The winner was 22-year-old Hedersson Neris, who will represent the city at the national finals in São Paulo late October.

I guess one of three finalists couldn't wait to elegantly sip his champagne from the bottle. In the meantime, I suggest the winner finishes his tattoo before heading to São Paulo.

A back view of the contestants and more after the jump.

Voting For Mr. Gay

Florianópolis and São Paulo have presented their finalists to the search for the first Mr. Gay Brazil representative, and are allowing you to pick your favorites by voting online.

I am slightly disappointed with the São Paulo finalists for the title. Check out their pictures and videos, and vote for your favorite at Mix Brasil until October 12. Why aren't the go-go boys from The Week competing for this?

The Floripa candidate will also be selected online from three finalists. Voting starts today at Club Concorde, and goes until Saturday.

If you wanna know my picks, they are Adriano Braga in São Paulo, and Tiago in Floripa.

More Of Mr. Gay Paraná

Question: Why am not judging these events throughout the country?

I will try at least to make it to the finals in São Paulo late October, when the first ever Mr. Gay Brazil will be crowned. Pics courtesy of Lado A.

A Semana: Mr. Gay, Rio G Spa, The EMAs, And New Music

20-year-old Bruno César Toledo was voted Mr. Gay Paraná last Friday, while Adriano Rocha took home the title in Brasília. The candidate representing Porto Alegre in the final pageant will be elected on October 5.

Believe it or not, Brazil will is not represented at the Gay Football World Cup, which kicked off in Buenos Aires yesterday.

Rio just got a brand new gay spa last week. Rio G Spa is located a block from Farme de Amoedo, and is a one stop shop, offering massages, waxing, and a beauty salon, as well as sauna, dark rooms, and private rooms.

If you haven't bought tickets for The Week's anniversary bash in São Paulo this coming weekend, make sure to do so asap. Last year it was a lot of fun.

Photographer Francois Rousseau discovers vampires in LA in his latest edit for Out magazine.

According to O Globo, French group PPR is interested in Brazilian label Osklen.

Victoria's Secret angel Izabel Goulart is set to play herself in an upcoming episode of the series 24.

J. Lo performed Do It Well in London over the weekend in a dress by Brazilian Daniella Helayel's Issa.

The MTV EMAs will take place in Munich on November 1st this year, hosted by Snoop Dogg. Will Rihanna's Umbrella take home the Most Addictive Track award? You can start voting now.

Seal's new track Amazing has already hit the web (and Arjan has a remix of it). His new album is produced by Stuart Price.

Ashanti is also out with a new single called Hey Baby (After The Club), but it sounds more like a leftover from Diddy's Last Night.

Sometimes it sucks to be in Brazil: the second season of Heroes starts tonight, and I will have to wait to download it tomorrow.

Who Will Be Mr. Gay Brasília?

This is too good to be true: from today until next Friday, Parou Tudo is holding an online poll to elect the candidate to represent Brasília in the national Mr. Gay competition. Brazil has never had a Mr. Gay representative in the past, and I am happy I have something to do with it happening this year.

The five finalists running for Mr. Gay Brasília are Ranny Massouh, Adriano Rocha, Pedro Henrique, Marcus Vinicius, and Rodrigo Vaz.

As if pictures were not enough, Parou Tudo made sure to capture all the candidates on tape as well. I can only hope that other Brazilian capitals get this organized.

This is turning into a huge guilty pleasure for me. The finals take place in São Paulo on October 20. Visit Parou Tudo to vote.
