Last night Project Runway designers had to create an outfit using materials found in the new Saturn Vue Hybrid, which obviously meant tons of seatbelts and seat covers. It was all about innovation like on the first challenge this season, only this time around the 10 remaining contestants really turned it out in what was certainly the best runway show so far this season. I only wish Nina Garcia had been present (Laura Bennett from season 3 filled in for her) because I missed her comments.
My take on the outfits is after the jump for those of you who watched the show last night.

It was almost a tie between Leanne and Korto. Both designs were outrageously cool, and did not look like they came out of a hybrid SUV. With her Mugler number, Leanne won not only the challenge, but also my affection. She was quiet at the beginning, but now I hope she makes it to Bryant Park.

When Blayne started sculpting a dress out of seatbelts on the form, I first thought that a few weeks on the show without tanning (or recreational drugs) had done him some good, and that he was going to come up with an amazing Versace-esque number. Obviously I was wrong, and you can't acquire taste in only a few weeks: the dress did not fit right, and the straps at the bottom should have been edited out. The broken mirror would have been a cute idea if the dress had worked, but it didn't.

Joe, you were luck you had immunity and the judges let it go by. Otherwise I would have put you up for an Auf Wiedersehen as well. Bad dress and terrible styling.

Stella, you have put on grommets and push pins on every single outfit this season, and when you are finally given tons of leather seats to turn into a major rocker outfit you bail out? I don't get it.

Keith, you were lucky Nina wasn't present because she would have had a lot to say about your outfit. Luckily Laura gave it to you plain and simple: "the thing that I don't like about it is there is no concept, no idea." Yes, last week you did send out a dowdy chicken down the runway, but at least there was a concept there. Trust me, I hate that you were Auf-Wiedersehened, and that there is no eye candy left this season, but with that outfit you had it coming (and going, because the back view was even worst than the front).
Can't wait to see DVF on the show next week.

THIS SHOW IS SO SILLY AND VERY UGLY!!!!

This episode is a direct rip off of an episode on Project Runway Australia about 5 weeks ago where they did the same thing with Fiat cars (the show's sponsor)

Leannes dress was perfection
As mainstream as Rachel Zoe is, I think she made an excellent guest judge
