I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I was to be in New York to watch the Project Runway season finale last night with my friend Matthew. I had been following this season illegally on YouTube since Bravo put an end to its deal with iTunes, and it is certainly not as exciting as watching it on an actual TV screen. I also realized last night how much I love and miss bad American television as Matthew introduced me to a new guilty pleasure called The Moment Of Truth.
In case you have not watched the Project Runway finale yet, stop here. My thoughts on the show and the winner are after the jump.

I did not know what to expect from Jillian, and I think that the problem is that neither did she. Throughout the season the reason why she always kept on surprising the judges may be the fact that she still is not sure of who she is or where to go as a designer. The girl has good ideas, and my feeling is that she tried to cram them all in the same collection. It was inconsistent, it lacked cohesion, and it was at best when it was kept simple. The best piece she showed was probably the knit dress she was wearing herself.

Rami went from creating the most ethereal numbers this season on the show to developing a collection of satin armory, and that is a big stretch. As much as I like that he stepped outside the box, maybe it was too big of a step for him, and it compromised his identity. Had he not stirred away from the lightness and femininity I was expecting from him, I think he would have won this season. I could have easily forgive him for the using the worst shade of olive, but did he also need to feature an awful pink and blue with it?

There is a reason Christian was saved for last, and we all know what it is. The kid is talented and can put on a show. He has been eating the pages of Vogue with milk as if it were cereal since he was a baby, and his love for all things fierce shows in his work. He presented not only the most exciting collection this season, but also the most cohesive, and totally deserved to win. I cannot believe he put all of that together in a tiny little room. Now I just hope he finds a good backer to make his couture dreams come true (either that or he gets his own show on Bravo).
PS- How cute was watching Christian almost crying before the winner was announced?

I was so happy when he won, it was cool when Tim asked him "believe it?" and he was all "Yeah!". Can't wait to see work from him looking forward to it.

I have to say that Christian was not my favorite designer this season (personality wise)but I was a little touched as he started to tear up in the last days. He seemed almost like a scared little boy at that time. And I also have to give it him...the kid was fast and very sure of himself for most of the show.
