Actor Rômulo Arantes Neto Charged For Allegedly Attacking Transvestites

Model-turned-actor Rômulo Arantes Neto was arrested at noon for allegedly attacking transvestites last night at a motel in Rio.

Along with actor Lui Mendes, Rômulo picked up three prostitutes last night in Copacabana without knowing that only one of them was really a woman. When the two actors got to motel Vip's in São Conrado and realized they were dealing with transvestites, they attacked the prostitutes and left them at the motel, taking the actual woman with them and threatening her. The woman was then dropped off at Jardim Botânico without her bag.

I briefly met Rômulo last month, and he does not strike me as the kind of kid who would do such a thing, so I hope there is a misunderstanding here. More on the case at Ego.

UPDATE: an official note by Rômulo's publicist received at 7 pm states that "the entire episode involving the actor was nothing more than a misunderstanding, which will be proved after Rômulo's statement to the Police." The note also corrects the fact that "Rômulo Arantes Neto was not actually arrested earlier in the day as published, and spent the day shooting the teen soap Malhação according to schedule."

There's a difference between being upset, shocked, and angry than being violently enraged. The transvestites probably assumed that he knew they were actually men. What right does he have to beat anyone? There's no excuse for beating someone up like that. That's the kind of excuse that "gay panic" murderers and bashers use.

I called my self to the Police Office in Rio and they told me that Romulo was never arrested and that the girl confessed she said it because she was up set with the boys because they didn´t pay any money to her.
