I have been working out at EcoFit Gym whenever I am in São Paulo lately. It is definitely not Chelsea Piers or Equinox, but it has a pretty cool concept: it is the first green gym built in the country.
Occupying four floors at the Alto de Pinheiros neighborhood, EcoFit cost a reportedly R$10 million, and was built to maximize the use of natural resources. Its structure uses recycled materials, solar panels, and wood from reforestation areas. Rain water is recycled for cleaning, and the swimming pool is treated with ozone, which is less harmful to the environment than chlorine. Aside from the weight training area and the aerobics classes, EcoFit also offers martial arts classes, yoga, pilates, and tai-chi.
I noticed last weekend that most members tend to print out their workout schedule every time they hit the gym. I know all the printing is done on recycled paper, but wouldn't the gym be even more eco-friendly if its members were to start doing their part as well, and not dispose of their printed schedules on a daily basis?

Kylie Minogue unleashed her KylieX2008 Tour in Paris this past Tuesday, and it looks like it is as camp as you would expect it to be. Why can't a Brazilian producer bring the show to São Paulo?
According to Billboard.com, Madonna's tour to promote Hard Candy will kick off on August 23 on Cardiff, Wales, and will include between 50 to 60 shows total. Dates for the "Sticky and Sweet Tour" (yes, that is what Madonna is calling it this time) have been announced today, and Brazil is not yet on the schedule even though there is already a Brazilian site claiming to have tickets for a December 9 date in Rio. Since the New York concerts coincide with my birthday, you know what I want as a gift.

The illegally unblocked iPhone has become a huge status symbol in Brazil in the past few months. I know more people here than in New York who have purchased one, even though most of the phone's functions are not supported by national carriers. Luckily for all the illegal iPhone users, Claro announced yesterday that it is in talks with Apple to become the official distributor of the phone in the country by the end of the year.
I tested an iPhone for a week last year, but decided to stick to my Blackberry instead, so the gadget I am really coveting now is the new Blackberry 900, which will feature 3G technology.
I hadn't really hang out at Vila Madalena in São Paulo until recently, and I have to say it has now become my antidote for the crowded Jardins neighborhood, which has long lost its hip status and became the city's answer to Madison Avenue. The New York Times seems to have fallen in love with Vila Madelena as well, and gave it a big nod with an article on the Travel section over the weekend.
Since rentals at Vila Madalena are less expensive than in Jardins, you can actually find cute little shops and original merchandise as opposed to all the big designer labels, which (honestly) can be purchased for half of the price in the US anyways. There are also bohemian hangouts for a late night beer and steak such as Salve Jorge, one of my favorite spots in the area. If you happen to be walking around, I also highly recommend Pira Sanduba for one of the best selection of cheap sandwiches in the city.

Manhunt.net announced the winner of its online contest to elect the hottest Brazilian on the site. Garoto Vibe 23 got the most votes, and scored an all expenses paid round-trip to São Paulo for Pride weekend. He also guaranteed a spot on the Manhunt float on the parade, which will have DJ Brett Henrichsen spinning, and Aime (DanceMusicDiva) performing. From tonight on, nightclub A Lôca will be also open on Wednesday nights. The night will be called Invert, and feature tribal and house music by DJs Paulo Ciotti and Rodrigo Borro.

Ultra Diesel has become the after hours destination for the boys who party at The Week on Saturday night, which is why some parties are listed at 8 am.

If you haven't booked a hotel in São Paulo yet, I recommend you do so asap. Most hotels near Avenida Paulista, where the parade takes place, are expecting to be fully booked for Pride weekend by later this week. If you are looking for a boutique hotel, I would suggest Emiliano in the Jardins area, but if you are not looking to spend R$800 a night, I highly recommend Blue Tree Towers Paulista, which has special rates of R$157 a night for Gay Pride weekend, and is conveniently located only a block away from the parade. A lot of the foreign DJs and press stayed there last year, so breakfast was sort of a cool scene.
And since Pride is the topic here, I am happy to inform that Rio has finally scheduled the date for its Gay Pride. It will take place on October 12 again this year, which is also my birthday.
It has been clear from the beginning that David Archuleta and David Cook would make it to the finals this season on AI. After last night performances, I am pretty sure that even Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado know that.
So which David is it gonna be? Even though I thought Cook would dominate on rock and roll night, Archuleta was by far my favorite.
