Rio Gets Another Fashion Week

I always say that beachwear is to Brazil what couture is to France, so I could not be more excited with the news that Rio Summer will be finally happening this coming November. The project conceived by entrepreneur Nizan Guanaes involves 15 fashion shows at the amazing Forte de Copacabana during the course of four days (November 5 to 8), as well as a trade show for beachwear labels. The idea is to turn Rio into the biggest swimwear market in the planet, and to offer a more interesting approach than the shows which took place in Miami last month.

At a press conference in Rio yesterday, Nizan Guanaes said that the event will cost R$10 million, and that 100 international buyers and editors have been invited to attend. The entire Fasano Hotel is booked for members of the press and celebrities invited. Valentino has already confirmed that he will be there for the shows and the parties. Ms. Wintour has also been invited.

Some of the brands which will be showing at Rio Summer include Blue Man, Cia Marítima, Jo de Mer, Rosa Chá, Salinas, Lenny, Osklen, and Totem. Even though many of them have already showed in São Paulo, designers promised an exclusive collection for the event.

Will Someone Please Let Him Tan?

Because Blayne is getting very concerned about his skin tone. "Probably by the end of the season I'll get really white." Fortunately for you Blayne, you won't have to worry because you are not getting that far on the show.

When I saw Apolo Ohno skating at the beginning of the show, I really hoped the designers would have to create a skating outfit for him (and am sure so did they). However, the challenge last night was to create a look for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics. Since some of you asked me to avoid spoilers on the main page, my take on the show is after the jump.

A Semana: The Sticky & Sweet Tour, Lady Gaga, Out Magazine, And Lots Of Models

Madonna's concerts in Brazil have not been officially confirmed yet, but rumor has it that Brazilian Record network has offered US$ 5 million to broadcast one of the shows in São Paulo or Rio live. On more concert news, WWD has unveiled sketches of Madonna's costumes for the Sticky & Sweet tour, and Madonna Tribe has published the final set list.

Celebrating National Underwear Day

This was the first year I was able to cover Freshpair's National Underwear Day live. The event moved from the streets of Times Square to a club on the west side, with open bar, air conditioning, and every gay man in town.

The New Girls From Brazil

The editors at Vogue Brazil seem to be listening to some of the criticism and making an effort to present better content. The latest cover of the magazine, featuring five promising newcomers, is the best and coolest I have seen on the magazine in a long time.

Watch out for them: Nathalie Edembug, Daniela Borges, Claudia Seiler, Luana Teifke, and Luiza Winberg.

Now quick question: where the hell is Gracie Carvalho, the girl with the most bookings this season in Brazil? I know she landed the cover of L'Officiel Brazil last month, but so did Claudia Seiler, and that did not stop her from being featured in Vogue.

Fetish

Magazine A Capa, which is sort of a Brazilian version of Next, released an entire issue devoted to fetishes this week. I usually don't post their editorial content, but I thought this one was pretty bold and figured I would share it with you guys.

Olympic Spirit

The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games kick off on Friday, and Globo had the lovely idea of inviting a few Brazilian athletes to blog about their Olympic experience. My favorite on their list of bloggers is heavyweight judo fighter João Gabriel Schlittler. From the pictures below you can clearly see why.

The soccer team is also practicing, and even though the players have not been given a blog, am sure pictures of them will not be scarce. These are my favorite shots from yesterday in Shenyang. Love the team spirit.

Say Hello To Mr. Gay Goiânia

I am thrilled to see that there has been a big improvement on the candidates to the title of Mr. Gay Brazil this year: 22-year-old Marcos Igor Grabowski was just selected to represent Goiânia.
